Tan to gray-brown stems with pronounced ridges and many lenticels; plump green to reddish brown buds with two visible scales. Flowers are white, highly beautiful, 1/2 inch across, and appear in huge clusters, with the outer ring of flowers sterile and larger; many growers have only sterile flowers; bloom in mid-spring.
