Verbesina alternifolia, also known as wingstem or yellow ironweed, is a tall, weedy, clump-forming perennial native to eastern and central North America's woodlands. It can be found in low open or rich forests, tree margins, and meadows in Missouri. Easily grown in full sun to part shade in medium, well-drained soils. It prefers wet, organically rich soils, but it can also tolerate some dryness.
