Thevetia peruviana is a tiny ornamental tree that reaches a height of 10 to 12 feet. The spirally organized leaves are linear and measure 13-15 cm in length. Flowers are funnel-shaped and brilliant yellow, with 5 spirally twisted petals. The fruits are globular in shape, fleshy on the inside, and have a diameter of 4-5 cm.
It is cultivated widely as an ornamental. All parts of the C. thevetia plant are toxic to most vertebrates as they contain cardiac glycosides. Many cases of intentional and accidental poisoning of humans are known.
