Syringa josikaea (Hungarian Lilac)
The Hungarian lilac is a lilac species found in the Carpathian Mountains of Hungary, Romania, and western Ukraine. It is endemic to central and eastern Europe. This shrub produces thin 4"-7" long clusters of rich lilac-purple, somewhat fragrant blooms in late May and early June. It's a lilac that blooms late in the season. The leaves are glossy and green, and the stems are multi-stemmed. It prefers wet, well-drained soil and moderate shade to full sun. Grows 8'-10' tall with a spread of 8'-12'.
