Syringa amurensis japonica (Japanese Tree Lilac) can be found growing on limestone cliffs and amid brush. The Japanese tree lilac is bigger and blooms later than the shrub lilacs. It blooms in huge clusters of tiny creamy-white flowers that are aromatic. Simple, opposite, whole, ovate leaves that are 3 to 6 inches long, half as broad, and have a long, tapering tip. The medium to dark green leaves have a fuzzy underside. In the autumn, the deciduous leaves develop a pale greenish-brown color before falling.
