Stupice Tomato, Early Variety Heirloom Tomato, an exceptional Czech heirloom tomato that is prized for its remarkably early maturity, outstanding flavor, and ability to produce reliably in cool northern climates. Originally from the former Czechoslovakia, Stupice is considered one of the finest cold-weather tomato varieties and is an excellent choice for gardeners with shorter growing seasons.

The potato-leaf plants produce an abundance of small, deep-red, 2-ounce fruits in clusters. The fruits have a delicious sweet and tangy flavor, which can become even sweeter when grown in cooler weather. Plants set fruit readily in cool temperatures and continue producing throughout the season until frost.

Stupice is an indeterminate, vigorous, vining variety that produces continuously. For best production, plants should be staked, trellised, or grown in tall cages. Pruning can also help keep the vigorous vines manageable.

Days to Maturity: Approximately 55–60 days from transplant
Fruit Size: About 2 oz.
Fruit Color: Deep red
Plant Type: Indeterminate, potato-leaf
Flavor: Sweet, tangy, and exceptionally flavorful
Best For: Cool climates, northern gardens, short growing seasons, containers, and home gardens

A fascinating piece of Czech gardening history, Stupice was one of four heirloom tomato varieties sent by Czech gardener Milan Sodomka to the founder of the Abundant Life Seed Foundation. Today, it remains a favorite among gardeners seeking an early, cold-tolerant tomato with excellent flavor and exceptional productivity.
