Sorbus alnifolia (Korean Mountain Ash)
Sorbus alnifolia (Korean Mountain Ash) is a blooming tree that is thickly branched, deciduous, and attractive. It's known for its appealing shape, creamy white blooms, simple beach-like leaves, red fall fruit, and vibrant autumn color. It grows quickly to 40-50" tall by 25" broad, having a pyramidal form when young that gradually rounds as it matures. In the winter, the smooth, grey, beech-like bark is particularly apparent. May brings dense flat clusters of 6-10 tiny 5-petaled white blooms.
The flowers are followed by pink to orange to crimson berry-like fruits that mature in the fall and stay on the tree even after the leaves have fallen. The leaves are simple, ovate to lance-shaped, glossy, toothed, dark green, and ovate to lance-shaped.
