Senecio mandraliscae 'Blue'
Botanical Name: Curio mandraliscae
Common Names: Blue Chalk Sticks, Blue Finger Senecio, Blue Chalk Fingers
Senecio mandraliscae 'Blue' (currently accepted as Curio mandraliscae) is a striking evergreen succulent prized for its vivid blue-gray foliage and exceptional drought tolerance. Native to South Africa, it forms dense, spreading mats of slender, finger-like leaves that create a cool, silvery-blue carpet in gardens. Its architectural foliage provides year-round color and contrasts beautifully with green, purple, or flowering succulents.
During summer, mature plants may produce small creamy-white flowers, although the blooms are relatively inconspicuous compared to the attractive foliage. This low-maintenance succulent thrives in sunny, dry locations and is an excellent choice for rock gardens, slopes, borders, Mediterranean landscapes, coastal plantings, containers, and xeriscapes.
Once established, Senecio mandraliscae 'Blue' is highly heat and drought tolerant. It performs best in well-drained soil and should be protected from prolonged freezing temperatures and overly wet conditions, especially during winter. Occasional trimming helps maintain a tidy appearance and encourages fuller growth.
