Red Burgundy Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus)
Red Burgundy Okra is a deep red variety with a tender and tasty pod. This prolific burgundy red okra adds a nice crunch, delicious flavour, and stunning colour to any soup or stew, especially gumbo!
The leaves of this hibiscus relative turn a rich, lovely purple colour when cooked. Plants that grow to be 3-5 feet tall and yield a large number of tender 6-8" pods. The plant's green leaves contrast nicely with the burgundy roots, branches, leaf ribs, and fruits, as well as a lovely display of yellow-cream flowers.
