The Eastern White Pine has a straight trunk and a crown of horizontal, parallel branches that extends one row every year, eventually becoming wide and uneven as the tree matures. This tree has needles that develop in clusters of five. Each needle is three to five inches in length, is blue green in colour, and is soft and flexible. In the breeze, the long, delicate needles appear to speak. The bark of the Eastern White Pine, like the bark of many other trees, changes with age. The bark is smooth and greenish grey in hue when it is young. Grayish to reddish-brown bark develops on mature Eastern White Pine trees, with layers of scales producing ridges that are split into irregular blocks.
