Picea abies Lake States (Lake States Norway Spruce)
Picea abies Lake States (Lake States Norway Spruce) is an upland evergreen conifer with a straight trunk and spreading branches that grows 60 to 90 feet tall. The mature trees' branchlets have a noticeable downward slant. Twigs have an orange-bronze hue and are generally hairless. With age, the bark becomes grayish-brown with reddish undertones and becomes scaly. The needles are rectangular in cross-section, glossy dark green, 1/2 to 1 inch long, sharply pointed, and spread out on very small stalks called sterigmata from all sides of the twig.
