Mouse Melon Cucumber, Slicing (Melothria scabra)
Cute grape-sized fruits with a cucumber taste and a touch of tartness that resemble miniature watermelons. For a fun visual twist, pickle and add to a martini. Since the fruits become more sour as they mature, they are also known as sandita or Mexican sour gherkin. From summer to fall, long vines grow plenty of "watermelons" to harvest.
