Mizuna Red Streak, Japanese Mustard (Brassica juncea)
The leaves of this cultivar are slender and speckled red. Mizuna is a unique Japanese mild mustard plant with leaves that are commonly used in salads and can be used as salad rocket when plucked fresh and tender. It thrives throughout the cooler months of the year and can withstand rain and cold. In cold weather and in direct sunlight, the coloration is darker.
This green, which has a slight peppery mustard flavour, is fantastic in salads as a baby green or as a full-size green. The stalk has a fantastic flavour, and the red splashes give colour to the combination. It grows quickly and has a high heat tolerance, thus it bolts later than lettuce.
