Melia azedarach (China Berry, Bead tree) is a deciduous or evergreen tree native to Southeast Asia and parts of India. It is now widely grown as an ornamental tree in many parts of the world, including North and South America, Africa, and Australia.

The tree can reach a height of up to 45 feet (14 meters) and has a spreading, rounded crown. The bark is grayish-brown and rough, with vertical fissures. The leaves are compound, with 2-5 leaflets that are lance-shaped, serrated, and up to 6 inches (15 cm) long. They are usually green, but can turn yellow in the fall.

The tree produces small, fragrant, lilac-colored flowers in the spring, which are followed by yellow or orange-yellow fruit in the fall. The fruit is a drupe, about the size of a small marble, containing a hard, woody pit with one or two seeds inside. The fruit is not edible for humans, but birds and other wildlife may eat it and disperse the seeds.

The tree is often planted as a shade tree in gardens and parks because of its attractive foliage and flowers. However, it can also be invasive in some areas, as it can spread quickly by seed and form dense thickets that crowd out native vegetation. The tree also contains toxins that can be harmful to some animals, including dogs and horses, if ingested in large quantities.
