Koelreuteria bipinnata (Chinese Flame Tree)
Koelreuteria bipinnata (Chinese Flame Tree) grows to be a medium-sized to big deciduous tree with a wide canopy. The foliage is made up of 12-18 inch long bipinnately split leaves with 6-10 pairs of serrated leaflets that are each 2-4 inches long. Late in the summer, a brilliant display of small yellow flowers grows on 12-18 in. long terminal racemes. Large papery seed capsules ranging in hue from pale salmon to pink-red replace the flowers. Seed capsules add a lot of color to the tree in the late fall.
