Ilex aquifolium (English Holly) commonly known as English Holly, is a species of flowering evergreen tree or shrub native to Western and Southern Europe, Northwest Africa, and Southwest Asia. It is a member of the family Aquifoliaceae.

English Holly typically grows up to 10-15 meters (33-49 feet) tall, although it can be much shorter if grown as a shrub. The leaves are glossy, dark green, and spiny with wavy or smooth edges. The shape of the leaves can vary from spiky and pointed to rounder with fewer spines.

English Holly is dioecious, meaning that male and female flowers are found on separate plants. The flowers are small, white, and fragrant, and bloom in late spring. The female plants produce bright red berries that persist throughout the winter, providing an important source of food for birds.  English Holly is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant, especially for its glossy green foliage and striking red berries. It is often used as a hedge or screen and is popular for Christmas decorations.
