GAILLARDIA aristata (Yellow Gaillardia)
Winner of All America Selection Award. Easily cultivated in full sun, dry to medium, and well-drained soils. Prefers wet, organically rich, well-draining soils, but can tolerate dry soils and drought. In heavy clay soils like those found in the St. Louis region, it performs poorly. It is not appropriate to deadhead spent flowers, but it will keep the planting tidy and may encourage more bloom. Preferable for butterfly gardens.
