Exochorda racemosa (Common Pearlbush)
The common pearlbush is an old-fashioned plant that is rarely utilised. Small, spherical, pearl-like flower buds unfold in sequence to pure white, five-petaled blooms on this beautiful and rather long-blooming shrub. Foliage is a medium green tint that turns a mellow yellow tone in the fall. Older bark peels off in the same way as birch bark does in the winter, adding to the winter appeal.
