Cotoneaster lucidus (Shiny Cotoneaster)
Shiny cotoneaster is a medium-sized deciduous shrub with long, spreading branches that can reach 6' to 10' in height. It is endemic to northern Asia and has evolved to survive in colder climates. The leaves are dark green in colour, ovate in shape, and have pubescence on the undersides. They grow in an alternating pattern along the stems. Pruning branches is not a problem. Early June brings light pink flowers that are tiny and crowded. Imbricate flower buds with loosely exposed outer scales are appressed.
