Chives, Onion (Common Chives) (Allium schoenoprasum)
Chives are a cool-weather perennial that is related to onions. Chive leaves' tips have a mild onion flavour. Chives are used in salads and as a garnish for a variety of cooked dishes. Chives have 6" to 10" long slender, round, hollow grass-like leaves. In the spring, stalks up to 12 inches tall produce globe-like pinkish-purple flowers. Leaves emerge from clumps of small scallion-like bulbs.
