Chiltepin Wild Pepper, HOT (Capsicum annuum glabriusculum)
Chiltepin peppers are still grown in the wild in southern Arizona and northern Mexico. The plants produce tiny fruit known as "bird's eye peppers". Chiltepin peppers have a Scoville heat index of 50,000-100,000 units. That's 6 to 40 times the heat of a jalapeo. While the little fruits are scorching, the heat is just temporary and is accompanied with a lovely smokiness.
