Chia (Salvia hispanica)
Chia is an edible seed from a mint-like plant native to central and southern Mexico and Guatemala, and it was a staple crop for the Mayans and Aztecs. Aztec warriors used it as a concentrated fuel source to meet their energy needs because of its high nutritional content. Chia seeds have a pleasant nutty flavour and can be used in yoghurt and smoothies.
