California Blackeye, Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata)
Despite being called a black eyed pea, or cowpea, these are actually beans. Cowpeas produce in higher heat, humidity, and drier conditions than other beans. Cowpea are bushy plants, producing 6 inches to 8 inches pods at the top of the plant. Used as fresh or dried. They grow in rich fertile, well-drained soil. Cowpea are very easy to grow and are very popular in the south. These are cream colored beans with black eyes.
