Black Diamond Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus)
Black Diamond Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) is an open-pollinated heirloom watermelon variety. For many years, commercial and home growers have preferred Black Diamond watermelons for a variety of reasons. Watermelon plants from the Black Diamond variety have vigorous vines that produce fruits that can weigh up to 50 pounds (23 kg.) The rinds of mature melons are very hard, and the flesh is sweet and pink-red.
