Betula lenta (Sweet Birch) is a North American ornamental and timber tree of the Betulaceae family, also known as black birch, cherry birch, and red birch. The smooth, glossy, nonpeeling outer bark, which is red-brown on younger stems but almost black on older trunks and deeply furrowed into irregular scales, is red-brown on younger stems but almost black on older trunks. Wintergreen is the scent and flavour of the twigs and inner bark. The oval toothed leaves are borne alternately and have a toothed form.
