The mildly flavoured stalks, also known as 'Giant Musselburgh' and 'Scotch Flag,' are very large and long, with fan-shaped dark green leaves. Their white bases are blanched and appear to be short.
This is one of the most winter-hardy leeks around. Since the 1830s, this Scottish heirloom has provided families with hearty soups and stews. An old dependable leek with thick white stalks that measure 2–3 inches in diameter. This variety has been passed down through the generations because of its mild flavour and smooth, tender stalks. In our trials, this was the biggest leek and one of the last to bolt.
