Salvia rosmarinus 'Salem' aka Rosmarinus officinalis 'Salem' (Rosemary Salem) Zones 7–10, is a compact, aromatic rosemary cultivar, a highly valued culinary rosemary with strong flavor and aroma. Ideal for herb gardens, containers, borders, hedging, and xeriscaping. Avoid overwatering—susceptible to root rot in poorly drained soils. Narrow, needle-like evergreen leaves; deep green above with a slightly silvery underside. Highly aromatic, strongly culinary. Small pale blue to lavender tubular flowers, typically appearing in late spring to summer. Attractive to bees and other pollinators.

‘Salem’ grows as a dense, upright to slightly mounded evergreen shrub with narrow, needle-like leaves that are dark green on top and slightly silvery underneath. When brushed or crushed, the foliage releases a sharp, pine-like, resinous aroma typical of culinary rosemary, but often considered especially robust in this cultivar.

In warm seasons or mild climates, it produces small pale blue to lavender flowers along the stems, which attract bees and other pollinators. Compared to some ornamental rosemary types, ‘Salem’ tends to be more cold-hardy and maintains a tidier structure, making it useful for herb gardens, borders, low hedges, or container growing.

It prefers full sun, well-drained soil, and relatively dry conditions once established. Like most rosemary, it dislikes heavy, wet soil more than cold temperatures, so drainage is the key factor for success.
