ECHINACEA purpurea (Purple Coneflower)
Smooth, 2-5 ft. stems and long-lasting lavender flowers make this a common perennial. Rough, strewn leaves that get smaller when you get closer to the top of the stem. Flowers with domed, purplish-brown, spiny centers and drooping lavender rays appear singly atop the branches. Purple (rarely white) bulging rays surround a spiny, brownish central disk in this attractive perennial. Echinacea has traditionally been used to treat viral diseases including the common cold and flu. It's used to support the body's immune system.
