Cornus walteri (Walter Dogwood)
Small blooming tree that grows quickly. Branches and red twig tips are covered with 10cm wide umbels of creamy white flowers in the spring, which stand out against the deep green foliage. The leaves are lance-shaped with smooth margins and become a rich purple colour in the fall. Birds adore plump, meaty black fruits. When young, it takes on the shape of a shrub; as it grows older, it takes on the shape of a tree. When fully grown, alligator bark is quite lovely.
