Chantenay Royal Carrot (Daucus carota)
The Royal Chantenay Carrot, which was first introduced in 1952, is adaptable and dependable. It's a carrot variety that thrives in a variety of soil types, including hard clay and shallow soil. The Royal Chantenay carrot is a thick, stout carrot that grows to be 12-15 cm (5-6") long and 5-10 cm (2-3") wide at the shoulder. It's thought to be a great carrot for storing. It's a common carrot for freezing and canning, but it also makes a great juicer carrot. The flesh of these dark orange carrots is finely grained and incredibly sweet. The carrot's high tops make it easier to pull.
