European Plum, Plum (Prunus domestica Institita St. Julian)


Prunus domestica (sometimes referred to as Prunus × domestica ) is a Prunus species with many varieties. These are often called "plums" in common English, though not all plums belong to this species. Its hybrid parentage is believed to be Prunus spinosa and Prunus cerasifera var. divaricata .

Prunus domestica is a deciduous Tree growing to 12 m (39ft) by 10 m (32ft) at a medium rate. 
It is hardy to zone 5. It is in flower in April, and the seeds ripen from Jul to November. The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated by Insects.The plant is self-fertile. 

The plant prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils, requires well-drained soil and can grow in heavy clay soil.The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils..It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade.It requires moist soil.

Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours
